abdul aziz bin ismail

Abdul Aziz is a seasoned adviser and former government official in the Malaysian Government with almost 40 years of experience. He has served in a number of senior roles in the public service and worked across ASEAN and international platforms. He has a very wide network across all levels of Government in Malaysia.

His public service career began in the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs where he worked as an enforcement officer and later as a prosecutor on Intellectual Property cases as well as a Trademarks Assistant Registrar.

Subsequently, he was elevated to various leadership positions within the Trademark division of the Intellectual Property Corporation Malaysia (MyIPO) until he was appointed the Deputy Director General (Industrial Property) of MyIPO in 2014.

Amongst his many achievements, Abdul has been involved in negotiating Free Trade Agreements for the Malaysian Government and has represented the Government at many international forums. He was a leader in the development of Intellectual Property (IP) rights systems in Malaysia through the formation of the Malaysian IP court and in ASEAN through his work on IP cooperation.

Currently, he serves on the board of the Malaysia Patent Agent Examination Board and provides advice to a number of corporate clients as well as presenting papers on IP and public policy at various international forums.
